What to Give & How to Give

There are many ways during your lifetime, or later as a bequest in your will, by which you can support historic preservation in Alabama. Charitable gifts to the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation (Tax ID # 63-0947714) are only used to support historic preservation work and services in Alabama.  Consult with your legal and financial advisors to become familiar with the tax benefits specific to your gift and/or help formulate your estate plan to include the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation.

Gifts of Cash

Make an annual gift of cash to support the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation or a gift of cash in your estate planning – both support the work of the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation, now and in the future.  To make an annual gift, click here.  For examples of bequest language click here.

Gifts of Beneficiary Rights

You can support historic preservation in Alabama by naming the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy, IRA or other qualified retirement benefits.  To make a gift of beneficiary rights, request a change-of-beneficiary form from your insurance or retirement plan administrator. Then simply return the completed form to your plan administrator.  To include a bequest of beneficiary rights in your will, click here for example language.  

Gifts of Securities

Gifts of securities to the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation can be gifts of bonds, mutual funds, stock, etc.  Gifts of securities can be given during your lifetime or bequeathed to the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation (Tax ID # 63-0947714).

How to Make A Bequest Gift

Plan a gift that lasts more than a lifetime with a bequest to the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation. Leave a legacy saving Alabama’s historic places from disappearing.

A simple and easy way to include the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation in your estate planning is to name the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation as a beneficiary in your will.

Examples of bequest gifts and language to discuss with your legal or financial advisor are:

To make a Residual Bequest Gift after your estate expenses and specific bequests are distributed:

"I give and devise to the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation (Tax ID #: 63-0947714 ), located in Livingston, Alabama, all (or state a percentage) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, to be used for its general support (or for the support of a specific purpose or program)."

To make a Specific Bequest Gift amount from your estate:

"I give and devise to the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation (Tax ID #: 63-0947714 ), located in Livingston, Alabama, the sum of $___________ (or asset) to be used for its general support (or for the support of a specific purpose or program)."

To make a Contingent Bequest Gift if one or more of your specific bequests cannot be fulfilled:

"If (insert name) is not living at the time of my demise, I give and devise to the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation (Tax ID #: 63-0947714 ), located in Livingston, Alabama, the sum of $___________ (or all or a percentage of the residue of my estate) to be used for its general support (or for the support of a specific purpose or program)."

To make a gift of Beneficiary Rights (life insurance, IRA, etc.) from your estate:

"I give and devise to the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation (Tax ID #: 63-0947714 ), located in Livingston, Alabama, the beneficiary rights to ______________ in the sum of $ ________ to be used for its general support (or for the support of a specific purpose or program)."

To make a gift of Personal or Real Property from your estate:

"I give and devise to the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation (Tax ID #: 63-0947714 ), located in Livingston, Alabama, ______________ property to be used for its general support (or for the support of a specific purpose or program)."

To make a gift of Securities (stock, bonds, mutual funds, etc.) from your estate:

"I give and devise to the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation (Tax ID #: 63-0947714 ), located in Livingston, Alabama, __________________ stock/securities to be used for its general support (or for the support of a specific purpose or program)."
